RETIREMENT FOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

After being associated with Mobile International Festival since 1985, Estela I. Dorn is retiring. In all those years, she has held various committee chairmanship positions until she became the President in 1993 and assumed the Executive Directorship in 1998. Estela is passing on the “globe” to Bobbie S. Bayne, who has been her Assistant and Education Coordinator for seven years. She will step up to be the next Executive Director effective January 2011. Bobbie was the President prior to that for five years. The two have worked together closely for twelve years.

At the last festival, Mayor Samuel H. Jones presented Estela with a Proclamation declaring Saturday, November 20th, 2010 as Maria Estela Dorn Day. Later on December 7th, Mr. Reggie Copeland, as City Council President, presented Estela on behalf of the City Council a Certificate of Recognition.

There were two retirement parties held for Estela at Stewartfield Home in Spring Hill College. One was with the sponsors, MIF sponsors and officers. The other one was at the combination general membership meeting/Christmas/retirement party. The first one was a surprise party while the later one was with members and extended MIF families.

Estela Dorn will continue to be associated with Mobile International Festival as a volunteer. Saying good-bye is not “final-final” after all!
